Get Walking Tasmania Week What is Get Walking Tasmania Week? Conducted successfully since 2002, Get Walking Tasmania Week is a statewide initiative of the Premier’s Physical Activity Council and is coordinated by the Heart Foundation. Get Walking Tasmania Week encourages organisations to coordinate walking events and promote the importance of incorporating sufficient levels of physical activity on a daily basis to assist in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Dedicated supporters for the Week include Sport and Recreation Tasmania, Department of Economic Development, the Departments of Education and Health and Human Services, the Schools Network, the Local Government Association of Tasmania, the Council on the Ageing and the Cancer Council of Tasmania. Does your walking group meet regularly? Would you like to add your details to the Get Moving Tasmania Walking Group database? Adding your details will enable members of the community to contact you and to join your group. Click here to add a walking group to the Get Moving database Who can get involved? Everyone can get involved. Organisations such as community health centres, councils, workplaces, schools, childcare centres, government agencies, social and sporting groups are encouraged to coordinate one or more walking events or activities during the Week. Why get involved? Walking brings people together socially, improves health and helps to create a more sustainable environment. Most importantly, walking is an activity open to nearly everyone, regardless of age, socio-economic status or culture. By coordinating a Get Walking Tasmania Week event, members of your community will enjoy the positive rewards that walking can bring and will be encouraged to make walking part of their everyday life.
