The Australian Physical Activity Guidelines For Adults The Australian Physical Activity Guidelines recommend that adults put together 30 minutes or more moderate-intensity physical activity (such as brisk walking) on most, if not all, days of the week. These 30 minutes can be accumulated in shorter bouts of 10 minutes or more during the course of the day, for example by taking three 10 minute walks. The Australian Physical Activity Guidelines for Adults are: 1. Think of movement as an opportunity, not an inconvenience 2. Be active every day in as many ways as you can 3. Put together at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most, preferably all, days 4. If you can, also enjoy some regular, vigorous activity for extra health and fitness Click here for a copy of the Australian Physical Activity Guidelines for Adults brochure for more information. For Children and Young People The Australian Physical Activity Recommendations apply to children and young people from 5-18 years of age. However, it is vital that parents and carers of children and young people, teachers, policy makers and health and other professionals are aware of the Recommendations so as to promote them and increase physical activity opportunities within their respective settings. The Australian Physical Activity Guidelines for Children and Young People are: 1. Children and young people should participate in at least 60 minutes (and up to several hours) of moderate to vigorous-intensity physical activity every day. 2. Children and young people should not spend more than 2 hours a day using electronic media for entertainment (eg computer games, Internet, TV), particularly during daylight hours.
