Tim from Hobart suggests:

Find a friend, a pet, a place to get to, or simply any excuse to go for a walk or jog.

Brook from Lindisfarne suggests:

Grab the kids and go to the park and play.

Shelley from Burnie suggests:

Grab a mate and go walking, once you start chatting the time will fly by. You'll be surprised by the distance you cover and how much better you feel!

Michelle from Sandy Bay suggests:

When you go shopping at the supermarket, walk up and down every isle with your trolley, even if you don't need anything from all of the isles!

Chrystal from North Hobart suggests:

Why not take your dog for a run instead of a walk. Buy a Snooza Active Walker from your local pet store and combine your exercise with your pet's - they'll love it!

Dennis from Howrah suggests:

I love to walk with my dog along the multi-purpose tracks behind Howrah and Bellerive Beaches from home to the Bellerive football/cricket ground, it gives me about 6-8 Km in grassy bushland right near the beach; it's meditative too. The beach is good too, but the Council is cutting down dog use.

Tony - non shopper suggests:

.. sick and tired of being beat at crib at lunchtime by that smarta### who wins everything or... frustrated by retail therapy that is only hurting your back pocket... solution - buy a pair of decent walking shoes, slip, slop, slap and go for a 20 to 30 minute walk and... enjoy real belt tightening!

Jessie from Norwood suggests:

  • It's summer - go for a swim! Incorporate some treading water or ball games
  • Walk to a park and throw a ball with a friend
  • Dust off your rollerblades and go play in a (quiet!) street
  • If you're waiting for someone, stand up and do some stretches
  • Ride your bike instead of driving whenever you can
  • Get active around the house - look at housework as calorie-burning productive fun
  • Walk on the beach, kick a ball, throw a stick for your puppy

Tanya from Tranmere suggests:

I take a pre-breakfast walk from my home for about 10 minutes to the Howrah Beach on a fine day and then have a short ten minute dip before towelling off and walking a further 10-15 minutes back home - only need a small towel and hardly anyone sees you at that time.

Michael from Montague Bay suggests:

I live virtually under the Tasman Bridge linking Hobart to Clarence so for simple exercise I walk east-west and then west east across the bridge a few times - it gives me a climb up over and then the hump and at no time am I far from home, but can measure it by time (30 minutes or more) or by distance - the views are always interesting on the river or in the traffic crossing the bridge.

Gail from Carella suggests:

I like to take the grandkids for a walk and pram along our Clarence footpaths so that we all get exercise, see the gardens, watch the dogs or cats and generally meet and greet pleasant people as we go.

John from Glenorchy suggests:

I take a regular morning swim in the Derwent along Nutgrove Beach and follow the shoreline - up and back it takes about 30-40 minutes and I always feel safe because I'm in eyesight from the houses on the beachfront.

Gerry of Moonah suggests:

When I plan out my home chores such as mowing, gardening, washing the car, sweeping the garage and generally cleaning up I try to do it in bunches that give me 30 minutes or more of exercise at a time and still get each job done; that way I get brownie points from the wife and get a bit of a workout.

Beth in Newton suggests:

Now that I'm older I like to walk down Newtown Road towards Ogilvie School and then do a few laps of their lovely ovals and fields before walking back up the road and finish with an orange juice and newspaper at Jackson and McRoss.
